On March 25, 1872, Toronto printers walked off the job to demand a nine-hour day. Three weeks later about 10,000 supporters filled Queen's Park, and the next day Globe publisher George Brown had the strike committee arrested for criminal conspiracy, because union activity was still a crime. Within days John A. Macdonald's government introduced the Trade Unions Act, and by June unions were legal in Canada. The strike itself lost. The law stayed, and the annual parades that grew out of it became Labour Day. For people who would rather negotiate together than alone.

A Unionize graphic tee for organizers, shop stewards, and anyone tired of asking for a raise alone. The word Unionize in tall, condensed letters knocked out of a bold, stretched hexagon badge, like a patch sewn on a work jacket. A gift for union members, labour historians, baristas organizing their store, and the coworker who has read the whole contract.
